Stereotypes begin as early as 6 years old for girls in STEM

Early in elementary faculty, a lot of young children now feel that boys are additional interested than women in computer science and engineering. That stereotype can impact girls’ willingness to participate in science, engineering, engineering and math (STEM) courses and functions, and even affect job possibilities down the highway.

That’s the essential finding of a lately introduced study from researchers at the College of Houston and the College of Washington, who surveyed 2,500 pupils in grades 1 to 12 to find out about the stereotypes small children hold pertaining to boys’ and girls’ fascination in STEM, and how all those stereotypes affect STEM participation.
